2020 KBN Scholorship / Frank Stong Award Winners

Voting was very close this year for the KBN Scholarships honoring Frank Stong. With the shortened entry time, we still received 4 excellent candidates. Blake Scharenberg, Tyler Burns, Garrett Torres, and Cole O’Bannon all applied for the 2020 Award. This year winners are Garrett Torres of Overland Park, and Tyler Burns of Topeka.

Garrett attends Blue Valley Northwest as well as being a member of the Kick Back BASS Club. Garrett currently has a better than perfect GPA, 4.02, an Ambassador for Angel Tree Foundation, provided more than 100 hours of community service the last few years for the Silver Crest Retirement Community, as well as several honors in his fishing including a 6th place finish at the 2018 HS Bass Master Classic.

Tyler attends Topeka High and is a member of the Kansas Jr Hawgs.  Tyler currently has a better than perfect GPA, 4.3, a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, central league All-Academic league in both football and baseball, as well as a member of the Youth Coordinating Team for his Church.

Blake attends Derby High where he helped to start the DHS Fishing Club and started the DHS Fishing Team. He is a junior this year, but has already proved to be a contender in the community as well as the lake.

Cole is a sophomore De Soto High with some very lofty goals for the future. Being member of  Cats Care, Church, varsity choir, and the baseball team may be time consuming but doesn’t deter the ability to “enjoy being amidst the gloriousness that our God created for us to breathe in every day of our lives.”

The KBN would like to thank all of the scholarship applicants… They are all winners! This is the final year of the current structure of entry for the KBN Scholarship, and we are excited to roll out the new program early in 2021.

  1. Thanks for your comment… I can tell right away that you must be a very intelligent individual… perceptive as well… And most of the KBN thought I wouldn’t amount to much!
